2017/2018: Pre-Calculus & AP Calculus BC
My debut in teaching career began as early as 2017, when I am still a high school student. I spent time after school to teach my underclassmen Pre-Calculus in 2017 and AP Calculus BC in 2018. For 2018, 100% of my students got a 5 on the BC Exam, while for the school the rate was 15% on the AB exam (we did not have a BC class). I was gifted a honorary teacher’s badge, in front of the entire high school student body, just days before graduation.
Spring 2020: Ordinary Differential Equations
I was grader under Professor Chenyun LUO. In March 2020, COVID happened and we are forced to complete that semester online. I helped Dr. Luo with the transition, including grading homeworks and exams remoetely, as well as LaTeXing relevant solutions.
Summer 2020: Bridge to Higher Mathematics
With not much to do in the (first) COVID summer, I taught voluntarily online for some more mathematics. This time, I focused on the fundamentals of higher mathematics: beginning of proofs and linear algebra first from a linear transformation point of view. Also my first attempt on teaching online, this made me purchase an iPad, as screensharing makes writing math soooo much better.
Spring 2021: Teaching Practicum/Pre-Calculus/ Mathematical Modeling
In Spring 2021 I was very lucky to secure a semester-long teaching placement at Beijing 101 Middle School’s International Division. I assisted Ms. Lu WANG for her four sections of Pre-AP/Pre-IB Mathematics, and I independently taught an elective course on Mathematical Modeling.
Spring 2022: Survey of Calculus
Under Professor Shusen PU, I really had some fun during ma last semester at Vanderbilt teaching Survey of Calculus, which does a little bit of differentiation and integration. As Squid Games jsut got on that year, I even tried to do a discussion section by playing the rules of it. But instead of cutting the shape with a needle, students have to compute the area under the curve, and thus, using integrals.
